Hi everyone! I was working on a post about an hour ago and hit something and it all disappeared. So I'm going to attempt to recreate what I had done earlier but it will probably be shortened because I have a few things I'd like to do.

It has rained every day since I landed. It was actually raining when we came through the clouds last Friday. Today is very cool, mid 50s. I've been doing things around the house while everybody is gone to stay busy. Wwm brought me to a super Target where I bought my son new pillows and a comforter for his bed. He was very pleased when he plopped down on it. Now it looks like a real bed. He said I should come around more often lol and this morning said it was one of the best night's sleep he had.

So besides the rain and the darn train that comes thru several times a day blaring its horn starting around 4:30am or so, I am enjoying my time here. Just could use a little more sleep lol

We went to dinner last night at PIG ATE MY PIZZA. This unique place was good with none of the frills. There were all different kinds of toppings, some I didn't even know what they were. The waiters were all tatted; our waiter's name was Thunder lol After dinner we went the LODGE, a restaurant/bar that included pool tables. Even tho there was a tournament going on, we were able to get a table and played 7 games. I showed my son who still was the boss on the pool table, 6-1 ;-)

Tomorrow one of N's roomies is taking me to Mall of America. I haven't been there yet and I may not buy anything but I have to see what everybody is talking about. Tomorrow nite another roommate asked us if we wanted to go out to SteveOs for food and drink. His roommates are really nice, closer to my age, and this single family home is clean in a very nice neighborhood with a very nice landlord whom I met yesterday. I feel much better after seeing his living arrangements and the area in person.

Friday my flight leaves around 2:30pm. It's going to be hard to leave. My daughter B was supposed to come with me but injured her ankle and elbow (basketball again!) the night before we were leaving so I had to come alone. Trying to work on getting a refund somehow.

Hi wwm! (( hugs )) Thank you SO much for taking me around yesterday! I really enjoyed meeting you in person and you are just the person I thought you were - kind, generous and just plain cool lol Thanks for lunch at Papa's, and helping me to run errands. I really enjoyed spending the time with you!

Hi Midnight! (( hugs )) I'm glad we're getting some rain back home because the seedlings need it. I will probably have to cut it when I get home. Then I will put the fertilizer down.

Hi amc! (( hugs )) Sorry about your hot tub. I know how that stinks for you; you spend a lot of time in it. Hope it's up and running tomorrow.

Yes, wwm and I had one of the smallest GB gathering in history lol It was fun, and I enjoyed our time together!!

Hi dickc! (( hugs )) The days are supposed to get nicer around here, just in time for my return flight home :-( Glad you got some work done in the yard between the rain drops. I'm certain your daughter is thrilled you got her laptop up and running.

Until we meet again ♥

Good morning Fire ::HUGS:: Got my plants yesterday but did not get them in as it rained later in the day. I did get daughters laptop finished though. Gloomy morning with an iffy forecast so I may not get planting done today either.

Good morning Fire!

About 7AM there was the sound of thunder. Then it rained severely at times, .37 inches/.94 cm of rain in 3 hours. Completed more paperwork, watched an early episode of CSI Miami, then went outdoors when the rain stopped.

Dug up the area soil four perennials were bought at Lowe's during the end of May 1 year ago. Really nice looking 2.5 quart containers of Gaillardia, coreopsis, Veronica, & Butterfly blue pin cushions. Not any sign of growth. Dug all four spots up only found the roots of the coreopsis.

The store needs the roots of all plants returns. So I'm out $19.44 and still need to fill those spots w/plants for zone 2-3 -25° to -35° below 0 (-31.6C° to -37.2C°). It's off to the local mom & pop flower farm on the return from a trip to the east side of the state.

Did stop in the usual Subway store and get a footlong chicken teriyaki loaded with veggies. Went to pay the $4 + .36 tax, the Regional Mgr said it was free. My receipt was drawn from the free sandwich of the week in their cookie bowl. My name and phone number on it. Thank you was said several times!

Had hoped to mow the lawn beginning with the 25% not cut last week. The lawn was soaked at 2:30 PM so a return inside to post this was done. Yes the Weed & Feed works so well when it rains. Thinking of asking around to find a teenager, or an unemployed dad to cut my lawn each week.

The temp is 50° with the high to be 77°. There is a 70% chance rain and t-storms. It is lightly raining. Have an 8 AM appointment on the east side of the state to get my tires rotated, balanced, and have a free two axle 'thrust alignment' and a front end alignment.

This was a $120 cost for a lifetime of free unlimited uses (this is my 3rd time) when the new replacement tires were prorated late summer at a fabulous cost of $30 each. Plan to stop at that area's local Walmart and see what they have for plants.

Have a fabulous day!

Evening Fire! Arrived home around 6:40, there was some light rain as I got off the Northstar, gray and misty 47 degrees, sure is gray out therer. My son browned the ground beef with taco seasoning, had some soft shell tacos, he prefers the hard shell.

Going to do some ironing in a little bit. Wasn't able to get my friend who's an electrician to come over to look at the hot tub, he's going up north for the Memorial Day weekend. I do have an appt. scheduled with the hot tub company for Thursday later afternoon, miss it not operating. I've been wanting to soak in it since Sunday evening, glad it's not the middle of February, otherwise I would've demanded they send an electrician here immediately.

Looks like you're meeting a GB tonight while you're here in town, hope you both have a wonderful evening. Nice gesture cleaning your son's room, I'm sure he appreciates it.

Good morning Fire ::HUGS:: Glad to hear about the trip so far. Good that it will be for the rest of the week. I bet your son will appreciate the cleaner room. I hope your meeting with Wendy is fun and you do enjoy the rest of the week!
I will head up the street to the farm stand for my tomatoes and green peppers in a bit and plant the rest of my veggie garden today. I still have a bit more other yard work to do, but I am mostly there. I also finally have my daughters laptop almost back together. It has the OS on it and the office is loaded. I just have a few more updates and some printer drivers to load and then she can have it back.

Good morning Fire!

Great you got to see your sons place and meet the other tenants. Wonderful that all the Twins fans are so nice. Am certain the Park memorabilia is expensive. Have none from Fenway except 3 dozen t-shirts and 1 doz caps.

Fabulous the city sent you five refund checks. Seems like they may have sent you a few extra. Good idea to use the money to pay for the water bill. Spent $5,000 for a drilled well y/a to all the free water needed.

Just like a mom to wash the sheets and clean behind the bed. Think we could all see $4 gas prices soon. How the midwest goes. So does the rest of the country. Great to hear from you!

It rained moderately in the morning. Made phone calls for nearly two hours, then needed a break. Watched a Star Trek, Next Generation show then NCIS Miami on Netflix. No stops for commercials is wonderful. The rain stopped late morning

Headed outdoors to my gardens for routine weed maintenance. The tomatoes and broccoli have grown as have the strawberry plants and the Concord grape vine. Tiny clumps of grapes have appeared.

Will prune back new vine growth to give the grapes all the energy needed to produce. The vine is inside the chicken wire walls and roof netting. Found two slugs on a leave. Threw them far away, they have lots of other greenery to feast.

Sprinkled some Epson salt around each plant. Then the winter's compost of veggies remains were moved to behind the last row of broccoli and tomatoes. Soil was added. These roots will eventually enter and gain the extra nutrients.

Saw lots of worms when the soil was turned over w/a long handle shovel. The worms will be happy with the vegetable matter and help to speed the compost process. The lawn was too wet to mow. The 25% not mowed last week sure is looking like a jungle.

The 75% mowed is growing rapidly with the Weed & Feed. See the weeds shriving up and the grass Kelly green. One fine investment to add W&F for less than $13 a bag. Need to buy several more bags for other sections of the lawn. Lots of rain on the way thru Thursday.

The temp is 48° with the high to be 66°. There is a 70% chance of rain.

Have a wonderful day!

Evening Fire! Ditto, would've liked to see you also since you're here, next time you're in town will have to do that, but I'll ask you to bring some seafood from out East, definitely reimburse. If my days at work weren't as long as they are, I'd try and make some arrangements, but my day starts leaving home at 5:30a.m, not getting back until 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. It does take a toll! Liked it much better when I worked nights, came in got the work done without the BS and usually out the door around 7:30a.m.

No plans for Memorial Day w/e other than having our pastor over for dinner on Saturday, he was reassigned to a new parish beginning July 1st, 18 years in our lives. We will continue to remain connected with him, can't cut ties after so many years together.

Hope you have a good remainder of the week here in Mpls and it dries out before Friday. The storm that came thru Sunday morning there was a lightening strike close, my wife said there was a flash, it blew something on the hot tub, either the fuse on the outside circuit shutoff or it fried the circuit board. Have the company coming here on Thursday to check it out, tomorrow hoping to pull the fuses out on the box and have them tested.

Yeah Fire, the gas prices here it's BS! Went up $.60 from last Monday to Thursday to $4.39, the previous day largest one day increase in price in the TC's and the highest price for gas to $4.29 in Mpls. Don't tell me that BP and Exxon didn't make a pack to close both at the sametime for 6 weeks to allow prices to spike, watch the record profits they'll both report. It's domestic economic terrorism by both oil corporations!!!

Good afternoon everyone! No, amc and dickc, I am still in Minnesota. Won't be flying out until Friday afternoon. It's been fun so far, except for the rain lol I think it's rained everyday since I was touching down at the airport last Friday. I was glad to see we are getting some at home because it will help my grass seed.

Yesterday was a great day at Target Field!! I have some pics I'm hoping to put up here after I post. I'll make a new folder called Minneapolis. Was very happy to bring the Sox good luck for a sweep since the Twins almost did that last week in Boston. Seats were great - in Delta's 360 Legend Club. You could see everything. They really have nice ballpark, and the people are very friendly here, even Twins' fans lol

I'm meeting Wendy from GB tomorrow who is going to pick me up and bring me to a few department stores for some things I want to get for my son's room and a few MN tokens to take back home. I bought a beautiful Twins (rum and coke lol) glass at the stadium but most things were a little too expensive for my liking.

The two men and one woman whom my son lives with are very nice. They rent this house, one man on the main floor with my son, the woman and other man live downstairs in the finished basement. I am very happy now that I've personally seen the house and neighborhoods that there is nothing for me to worry about anymore lol

Hi Midnight! (( hugs )) It definitely pays to bring monetary disputes like yours to your city or town. I had to do that when the city replaced my water meter which read 5500 something. My last bill the quarter before was estimated at 5800. They said they'd either keep the new bill as is, fix it or send me refunds. Well, C, who is staying at the house while I'm away, said I received 5 checks from the city. Wow! She opened one which was $50; I wonder that the others are. I will probably just put that towards the new bill.

Today I spent my first day here alone. I finished loading the dishwasher and ran it. I stripped my son's bed, washes the bedclothes and remade it. Also spied dust behind the wall and bed so cleaned that up, too. Nothing like having your mother around, huh? The day went fast as I tried to keep busy.

If I thought gas at $3.49 was expensive back home, how would you like to pay $4.29??!! I knew it was high here but that's ridiculous! Although my son said one place near him went down $.10 to $4.29. Imagine getting excited over a $.10 drop to pay $4.29. I'd love to see it keep going down but don't think that is going to be the case with three refineries closed.

Hi amc! (( hugs )) Nope, I am still here. Would have liked to see you. I saw the #6 at Target Field where you get on (or off) the train. I saw the extension they are building for another stop and an area for landscaping. Looks like it's going to be nice.

Good that it was just the AC cover and nothing else. It is 80 today and almost felt like I could have used the AC but pulled the blinds down a little and closed a couple windows.

You mentioned cottonballs.... OMG! I had some crap like that in my own backyard at home and thought because a piece of fence had fallen down that the people's crap who live behind me were blowing into my yard. I NEVER saw anything like that. I didn't have as much as you but it was a pain because you have to physically pick it up cuz it sticks to EVERYthing. Where does it come from?!

Hi dickc! (( hugs )) Was happy to read that we are/were getting rain back home because my seedlings could use it.

My mom used to have a garden and also had strawberries along with a fig tree (unusual for the north), luscious tomatoes and other things. Your own homegrown stuff is the best you can get!

Sorry to hear your sinuses were acting up again. You've had the worst luck this year! Although I hear a lot of people complaining about the same kind of stuff this spring.

Hope to get back here before I fly back on Friday ♥

Morning Fire! Bright, sunny and comfortable outside, birds are chirping. Haven't looked at the forecast for today, thought we were supposed to receive more rain. Are you in route back to Boston? Was a busy w/e for us, wanted to mow yesterday but the rains changed those plans, yard beginning to look like a field. Will have to power rake it next w/e then put down some fertilizer.

Good morning Fire ::HUGS:: Got my strawberries taken care of finally. I wanted to get to them almost two weeks ago, but the cold then sinuses stopped that. Finally got them thinned and some transplanted. Now all I have to do is cover them to keep out the birds and other animals.
Are you home from Minnesota yet? I know you were there for at least this weekend.

Good morning Fire!

Everyone of us is getting rain.

"Wilderness Boundary" read the US Forest Service sign as it was passed. “Wilderness is an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.” -US Congress definition in The Wilderness Act. Public Law 88-577 (16 U.S.C. 1131-1136) 88th Congress, Second Session September 3, 1964.

Left early in the morning for the fantastic scenic drive thru Franconia Notch. This is a single view from the west and this is just one view from the east

Drove to the tourist Town of Lincoln, NH and followed Rt 112, the Kancamagus (Kan-ka-maw-gus) Highway, aka The Kanc, east for 5 miles. Here is the 2 giant parking lots and Ranger Station for hikers adventures to see Franconia Falls and to explore the Pemigewasset Wilderness, well over 48,000 acres (200 km 2).

12 Four Thousand Foot mountains are the Pemi Wilderness in a horseshoe arrangement. Many like to hike all of them in a 38 mile (61.2 km) 3-5 day backpack traverse. Some even run the entire loop. They are called ridge runners. Others just like a casual hike to see waterfalls and to be in the outdoors.

The hike into the edge of the wilderness is a railroad bed built in 1890 by John E Henry. He was greedy and mean. If a man fell into the river, Henry would yell to save the tools, instead of the man. This RR ran from 1892-1948.

The Pemigewasset wilderness was virtually clear cut. It then burned from sparks on the coal train engine. Thankfully it is now protected from logger's hands and has returned to a beautiful forest of hard & softwoods abundant with wildlife.

Just before the suspended bridge across the river, a marked side trail leads one north for .4 of a mile (.64 km) to the thunderous roar of the falls as seen in the Spring.

During the end of June thru the 1st day of school in Sept. Children, teens, and the brave sit in this chute and have the water thrust them into the falls. There is often 100 folks, just at the falls.

This popular hike has an easy 300' rise in elevation in 3.2 miles. The sensational round trip is 6.4 miles, about a 3 hour r.t. to help get my legs back.

Visited that town's supermarket and bought Vidalia onions for 88¢ a lb and a 22 oz strawberry rhubarb 8" pie for just $4.99. Stopped at Subway for a chicken teriyaki footlong for a mere $4. It is Customer Appreciation four day $4 footlong subs that are $7.50 or less. What a deal.

The temp is 53° in mostly cloudy skies with the high to be 68°. There is a 30% chance of rain. It rained for an hour earlier.

Have a pleasant day!

Afternoon Fire! You're in the TC's I'm reading, you at the rain delayed game today? Hope you're enjoying time with your son here in town. I assume you're returning home tomorrow. I see the game still in a rain delay.

I have a couple fixtures to put up, will probably do that in a little bit. We turned the A/C on noticed that it wasn't working cooling things off very well. Looked out the diningroom window and the A/C cover was still on. Turned it off quickly pulled the cover off, no built up heat. Allowed it to rest for a little bit then turned it back on, it appears to be working fine. I'm glad I was observant, I usually have the cover off by now, but we only had the ice clear off the lakes last weekend, explains our crazy year so far this Spring.

Afternoon Fire! Neighbor next door has THESE ROTTEN APEN TREES! Returned home from the lake yesterday afternoon little after 4pm., his trees shedding all these cotton like puffs in the air. Wind blowing what do you think from the east and blowing it across my yard and the neighbors to the east, looked like it was snowing.

This afternoon they're having their daughter's grad party, they're in the backyard and none of this crap blowing thru their yard. It looks like it's snowing, you should see my front yard just covered along with my neighbors to the east. I don't understand this, why isn't the wind blowing from the west and creating the mess in his yard and their party? The pods from these trees drop in my yard again east of his yard, with it's mess in my side yard, driveway and garage gutters, that I HAVE TO CLEAN!Have to rake the driveway because it's so full of the stuff, sweeping it doesn't work. This damn MESS! I'm tired of it, in the Fall all the leaves again fall in my side yard and on the sidewalk and driveway staining it black from the leaves. Should poison the trees and be done with them!

Looks like rain moving in which should eliminate these cotton puffs blowing all around. Wish it rains on their party, I know not the best thing to wish for, but you should see the mess here. Yesterday as I opened the vans door to empty things out after returning from the lake, all the crap blew inside the van. Went I went to church yesterday afternoon around 5, drove with the windows open to circulate the crap out of the van.

It's beginning to rain here now, coming down pretty well now. Looked outside, the rain has stopped that crap from blowing around. Sounds like the rain's going to be around for over an hour, their party's moved into the house and garage.

Good morning Fire!

Began the day by visiting the Town Tax Collector. There is a discrepancy of $211 extra the town (somehow) added to my Dec tax. Showed her my receipts, she noted the difference in my receipts, and her tax computer. She will explain this to the Selectman so there won't be a big to do and the difference is to be abated. That is plan.

Then it was a drive to take my recyclables to the Center. Am surprised at the extent of materials that accumulates all week. Saw some familiar faces and met some new ones.

Drove to town to full up the gas tank. Prices went up 3¢ from midweek. Now at $3.42 for reg. Up 10¢ from the low of $3.32 the beginning of May. Passed looking for deals at the Sat morning supermarket. Have too much in the freezer and still have the spiral ham, chicken breasts, cooked veges, and the spare ribs cooked on Friday.

Headed to Littleton to photocopy much paperwork at Staples needed to send to continue the claim on my mother's Estate. Volumes of paperwork and many, way too many forms to complete and mail.

Stopped to visit my pal the mgr at Rite Aid. We talked about everything from current baseball to nostalgia from days long gone by. Stopped in to get a $4 Footlong on any sub regularly under $7.50. It is NH customer appreciation days for the next four days, thru Wed. A Footlong is a Giant meal and $4 is one fabulous low price.

Returned home to get more paperwork done and look at how tall the 25% of the lawn not cut is. Even the other parts that have Weed & Feed are growing out of control.

The temp is 38° with the high to be 68° in partly cloudy skies. Glad the rain has missed this area. Rain is due Monday thru Wed.

Have a splendid day!

Evening Fire! Went up to the lake with my son and a friend, one of my brothers was up there already with two of his friends at his FIL's house(3K+) just 2 down from my mom's lake home.

Picked up the boat at the fair grounds from Winter storage, put the lift and dock in. Got the boat on the lake and on the lift later. Everything ready now for another season.

Was back on the freeway at 2:15 heading back home. We had some meatloaf, baked potatoes and asparagus for dinner. Came in a few minutes ago from enjoying a few after dinner cocktails on the deck. Going to relax and watch a movie on TCM. Rain expected tonight.

Hope you had a good Saturday.

Good morning Fire!

Emptied the crock pot of the remaining chicken breast and veges, washed it and added the spare ribs bought a few days ago to it along with 4 oz of water, minced garlic, some green beans, and Brussel sprouts.

Did lots of paperwork on my mom's estate this morning. Tired of it already and there is so much more to complete at some point. Needed to relax and watch an episode of Columbo. It starred Johnny Cash. Peter Falk as Columbo haunts the murderer repeatedly until he gets his wo/man.

At noon the crock pot was turned off the and my backpack was strapped on. Shorts and t-shirt were worn as the temp was 57° with scattered clouds. Down the mountain we went. The dog was particularly happy and wagged her tail.

The confluence of the two brooks was pleasing with great stereo sounds as the water poured down moss covered boulders. It was difficult at first to loosen up my legs. My right knee hurt at least six times and it was feared that an about face would have to be made. That did not happen.

It is true the first mile is the most difficult and it took that distance to limber up. At the first hay fields at the sugar maple trees, the lovely spring colors of the new leaves and the mountains in far into Vermont, now a deep Kelly green stimulated my soul.

No longer spring peepers at the small pond, the pace was picked up on the slope that passes the 4 story farmhouse and matching barn. No cows were in sight. Could not even see the yellow plastic insulators on the rods on the other side of the electric fence.

Lots of birds were singing happy songs, no jets, cars, or people to hear. Did notice the first swarm of mosquitos. Ran ahead quickly. My neighbor to the south was up from MA mowing his lawn. We waved as his energetic dog ran back and forth excitedly never coming within 4 feet of the Invisible Fence.

My dog is on her leash just before that custom built log cabin. Right after passing the house the mail carrier drove up and parked. The dog was wagging her head rapidly as the woman dropped a dog bone cookie.

The dog sat, wagged her tail, and begged for another. "It's been a while," the carrier said as another cookie was given to the dog. She mentioned a tan dog slipped out of her collar on a run 3 weeks ago and to keep an eye out for her.

This mountain loop road hike is an engaging 4¼ miles with an rise in elevation of 650 worthy feet.

The temp is 42° with the high to be 68° in mostly sunny skies.

Have a tremendous day!

Good afternoon Fire ::HUGS:: Feeling a bit better today as I think the antibiotic is finally making some headway. Hope to feel pretty normal by tomorrow. If I recall correctly, you should be headed to or in Minnesota today. The Sox play tonight Saturday and Sunday and you were going to one of those games. I hope they win for you. Be sure to look up AMC while you are out there!

AMC - Thanks for the explanation. My morning paper finally had something about it. Seems as though a Chicago area refinery started the problem, so everybody gave your gas to them, and then started charging you guys more as there was now a "shortage". Gee whiz, how about a few train tanker loads of gas from other areas instead of porking the poor neighbors! Good ole EPA and the different fuel blends we are required to use. Issue some waivers, and STANDARDIZE the fuel supply. Also, tell California to keep there CARB plans to themselves!

Good morning Fire!

Amc, words mean the same, just different. Like the word Spike. Will support that change.

Have a fine time at the market seeing those one sees each Thursday morning. Bought Red Bartlett pears for $1.50 a lb, green bean are $1.85 a lb, Driscoll's raspberries are 3/$5 ($1.67 ea), a large broccoli bunch w/two heads are $1.35.

Also bought Maine hot house tomatoes are $1.65 a lb, Brussel sprouts are $2 a lb, cucumbers 5/$2, Soft ball size Navel oranges are 2/$1, bananas .49¢, and crimini mushrooms $3.50 a lb.

Stopped at a big box store to buy a few 6 pack annuals and centerpiece plant for my flowers in the half wine barrel. Decided on a argyranthemum for $3.68. This genus really stands out and looks like this.

Stayed outdoor for a few hours. Even in the sun it was cool enough for the black flies to swarm. Learned that mineral oil applied to the skin drowns them the easiest and lasts the longest.

Also learned from a friend that an arm in the air caused the blackflies to go for the highest spot, away from your face. Great if you want to work w/one hand held high in the air. <wink> Wearing my head net helps greatly.

The temp is 46° with the high to be 64°. There is a 30% chance of rain.

Have a delightful day!

Evening Fire! Another increase today of $.10 to $4.29........$.93 increase in 33 days!!!!!!!!!!

What's going on dickc? GREED by Big Oil. Two refineries closed in Chicago at the sametime for 6 WEEKS!!!! One is BP the other EXXON, don't think there wasn't any corporate boardroom planning about this........watch the next quarterly reports of record profits. If you don't think so, then the terrorist Boston Marathon bombings never occurred.

BP and Exxon caused the United States the worst environmental damage in our history, the effects which we will continue to deal with for decades. We're still dealing with the damage from the Exxon Valdez in 1989! Both should be paying a annual penalty of millions of dollars back to the United States for the damage they caused. They should have crews working around the clock cleaning up the environment. Exxon is a ghost and BP last summer said it had cleaned up the Gulf Coast until the last hurricane came thru churning up the Gulf bottom and washing up all the oil back on the Gulf beaches. MANY ARTICLES on how the marine life there has changed.

dickc, another fact, the one day increase in the TC's $.30 was a record along with the price of $4.19 being a record......2 in one day. I think the site should change gas prices rising/gas prices falling TO: gas prices SPIKING/gas prices trickling down. Who supports me on this change of REALITY?

Can't remember did I say hi to Fire at the beginning?

What is the cause? PURE CORPORATE GREED BY BIG OIL! OH yes, let's not forget the speculators and Wall Street for these spikes!

Good morning Fire ::HUGS:: Yup, it is another sinus infection. Hope it begins to drain soon.

Wow AMC! That is a huge increase. We have gone up only 8¢ here. Looking at the NYMEX futures, we do not appear to be looking at much more either. What is going on in your area?

Good morning Fire!

amc, For some unknown reason the midwest gas prices increase first. Think it is the future buyers. Paid $3.39 in Lancaster, NH yesterday. Expect it to go up 15¢ with the state's new road repair tax. Consumers can not win.

Headed to town before 9AM wanted to fill up while gas is still $3.39 a gal for reg. Stopped at the P.O. to get some important documents for my mom's estate.

Went to the local flower farm and bought four primrose plants to fill in an empty area. Bought 2 beefsteak tomato plants 12" tall for $1 each that should be ready in about 70 days. Planted them deep in organic compost.

Two truckloads of cow manure and two heaping shovelful fulls of worms were delivered 15 y/a to create the new 16 x 24 foot veggie garden. It was $15 a truckload at the time.

Talked up selling them 50 crocosmia perennials.. Looking for $2 each. They retail for $8 ea. Got a free replacement for the hollyhock that did not sprout this spring. The women owner said "We are negotiating already."

Stopped at the local supermarket to find a big bargain. It was southern style pork ribs bone in marked down $6 off list price. Final cost was 2.91 lbs for $5.32. $1.82 a lb. Was so happy that a visit to the store bakery netted me a 24 ounce 8" blueberry pie for $5.99. Had a ⅓ of it for lunch, no ice cream was added. May get a half pint later.

Returned home to put the food away and then it was back to the garden for three hours. Bending over did not hurt my back. It was naturally slightly sore from the hours bending.

Several perennials were transplanted to different spots, some were dug up the were growing in my lawn, and some of the annuals were planted. Have 48 annuals for my windows boxes and to fill up some front spaces in the perennial gardens.

My dog rec'd her first tick of the year. It was deep inside her ear. It was new as the tick was flat, not blown up like after a feast of blood. Checked myself and found none. Like to get the garden and annuals early to see lots of flowers.

The temp is 48° with high to be 66°. There is a 60% chance of rain. Off to the market and to shop at several stores this morning. Want to find some deals and to buy more annuals to plant. To celebrate summer.

Have a fantastic day!

Good morning Fire!

Drove to Coppermine Road in the distinguished Town of Franconia, NH mid morning. Strapped on my backpack and took the Coppermine Trail. This trail runs through a 150 year old forest with giant spruce, fir, and pine for softwoods and huge birch, ash, and maple for the hardwoods. Trees are 30 inches wide or more.

The trail is very rocky with several streams crossing through. Recent volunteer trail work has completed many waterbars and other excellent drainage to keep the trail as dry as possible.

At the 1 mile mark the Coppermine Brook runs parallel to the trail and is sight the remainder of the hike. Lots of whitewater and cataracts are seen along with the wonderful sound of water.

Near the end one crosses this mighty brook over a railed footbridge. Soon a handmade spruce log shelter w/a roof comes into view. It is rumoured to have been built by the CCC in the late 30's. We make some inquiries.

Countless people and kids have spent a night at the shelter It a log cabin with an open front. Summer and winter. A reporter drove up for the a winter weekend to write an article on popular spots in the White Mountains. Here is a NY Times photo of the dog and me on the trail in March of 'O9.

Soon a tributary of the brook is crossed by rock hopping. In 100' the falls comes into view. There are many boulders called lunch rocks for people to sit, rest, have a bite to eat and view the magnificent Bridal Veil Falls

This hike is one of the most popular hikes to see a waterfalls. On a hot summer one may see dozens during the week and scores on the weekend. There is a moderate rise in elevation of 1,100 feet in 2.5 miles with a round trip of 5 miles.

The temp is 26° with the high to be 64°. Sure glad my annuals are covered. There is a 40% chance of rain.

Have a fabulous day!

Good morning Fire ::HUGS:: Got the lawn mowed and trimmed yesterday. Had some issues with my trimmer that will take me a bit of time to work out. Today is tackle two gardens day. Once those are done, then it is planting time. I will have to wait a few more days for the warm up to be sure its safe to plant.

Good morning Fire!

Doggone chilly and windy in the morning. The temp was 42° with a long sleeve shirt on under a spring hiking jacket. The wind had gusts up to 16 mph. Almost glove wearing conditions. With heavy overcast, it was not a good day to drive to a mtn or a waterfall. Needed to loosen up and get my legs limbered.

Strapped on my backpack, the dog was excited, and out the door we went. My legs felt tight and heavy as were descended the mountain. At the bottom we turned right to see the two brooks flowing enjoyably in whitewater and sound. They merge on the north side of the road then join the CT River in a mile.

The steady elevation went well and it surprised me for not hiking in several days. The sugar maple leaves are nearly their normal size. The crab apple trees have pink blossoms. The cherry trees have white blossoms. These colors look fantastic against their green colored sisters.

Also white are the chokecherry trees (Prunus virginiana). They grow to 30 feet (9.14 m) high. One can eat the berries from this tree. Yet after one bite you will realize how the tree got its name. The astringent cherries work much better in jellies and pies. The 5 petal flower is pleasingly aromatic.

The cows were not seen at the giant electric fence pasture. Later the founding family's son was driving by. He was hailed and stopped to speak to me. None of them are milking cows. They are holsteins, either pregnant, or far less than 2 years old.

There is a small pond that can not be seen from the road for them to drink. They ran to me last week as they thought they were going to be feed. A fellow from a surrounding town rented the entire farm property. When winter comes the cows will be returned to their original farm.

It snowed four times during the hike. Could see snowflakes on the coat of the dog. Just one car, no jets, and birds singing their lovely songs during the snow flying around. No accumulation and no back pain. This hike is 4¼ gratifying miles with 650 appreciated feet of elevation gain.

The temp is 28° with the high to be 54° in sunny skies. The annuals had side stakes to elevate their plastic covering. Hope this is our last frost 'til Sept/Oct. May see one tonight and on Friday overnight.

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning Fire!

Know you are tied after a long day at work. Nice to walk thru the Commons in May. Great that C and her b/f visited and showered you with love. Wonderful to fly out to Minn this Friday with B and get away for a while. Hope you wear your new Sox gear when out and about. C ate 12 wings in under 2 min, won Sox tix and a gazillion other prizes. Holy smokes!

Brought my backpack to the car ready to go on an adventure. Took a long look at how tall the grass grew from a few days ago and the day before. The Weed & Feed worked overnight. Most noticeably. Got bicycle out and the lawnmower. Then the lawnmower was left aside.

Jumped on the bike and began to pedal up the mountain. My dog remembered just what the routine is. She wagged her tail as she jogged beside me. My first pedal of the year. Only went a mile to the height of land on my road. This to get my legs used to pedaling. Was surprised the dog ran all the way up and back down. She has much energy and better enthusiasm than a year ago. Was so happy to see this.

Filled the mower with fresh gas with a stabilizer added to the E10 to prevent the Ethanol from gasket eating. It started right up, so got right into pulling the mower back and forth. Saw the rear wheel and handle bracket got loose. so it was tighten.

Stayed with the mowing until ¾ of the lawn was completed. It does look so much nicer evenly trimmed and manicured. Then it was strawberry and perennial maintenance time.

Amazed how rapidly the rain sprouts up new weeds. Need to get weeds out of the berries and plants before they shoot up. Figure work yesterday and then hike in the sun today. Listened to the home team leave a ton of men on base and loose. More relaxing was to see and learn how Columbo solved another homicide investigation.

The temp is 40° with the high to be 50° in mostly cloudy skies. A 20% chance of rain just popped into the picture.

Have a pleasant day!

Evening Fire!

Had a wonderful afternoon at our oldest daughter and SIL's home, they barbecued chicken, had a cauliflower/cabbage coleslaw like salad, fruit salad, mashed Yukon Gold potatoes and large dinner rolls glazed with butter/honey, everything was delicious. Picked up a raspberry/chocolate cream torte and fresh blueberry pie for dessert. It was a good Mother's Day to spend with the kids and our SIL's parents.

Just home kicking back and letting the end of the day come to a close. Wish we had more days like today, time to spend with our kids enjoying each others' company!

Good afternoon Fire ::HUGS:: Looks like its clearing off. Now you can mow the lawn. <chuckle> We will be going out for Mother's day soon. We always go to the same place for Chinese food, Bali-Hai. All of the kids will join us, so that means both grand kids too. Hope the weeds are not overtaking too much of the yard. I have mine down to only a few so I spray them when I see them and don't have to treat the whole lawn. I mow, and then spray where I remember seeing them. If you have too many, use a weed and feed product. Just mow first, then make sure the grass is wet before you put it down so it sticks to the weeds.
I do hope you have a great time out in Minnesota visiting your son. It will be good for you to get a break from the daily grind and the TRAFFIC! Have a good flight, I hope its smooth both ways. Don't embarrass "N"!

Morning Fire! Happy Mother's Day!

Know what you mean coming home exhausted from work, I was SPENT Friday evening after getting home from work. Wasn't much better during the week, though Friday took a toll. Management's philosophy doing more with less. They should cut back in the number of administrators and put people back on the front line that are having direct contact with people we're serving.

Saturday had to go to my mom's to do her accounts and bills, was expecting a much smaller stack from what she described, was there longer than I planned. After I arrived home still hadn't completely wound down yet from Friday, not until we went to 5pm Mass.

It was announced at the end of Mass our pastor of 12 years and an associate for 6 years prior, is being reassigned to another parish, a big void I'm experiencing. A good friend and someone we've had over for dinner with our family and shared various activities and events with, he married our oldest daughter. We'll definitely continue to keep ties with him, but it'll be different with him not at our parish.

Our daughter and bf drove down from college, they're home for the Summer. Last night they, our son, older daughter and husband were here for dinner, I grilled steaks on the grill. We spent a nice time together.

Today the oldest daughter and SIL are having us over for Mother's Day, youngest daughter and son will be there too. Have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Happy Sunday to all and my very best wishes to all the wonderful moms who visit me and those across GB on this Mother's Day! And thank YOU's to those who wished the same for me!

I know it's been a while (again) but told myself one of the first things I was going to do was come here before the day gets away from me again. I DO want ya's to know that I DO ready everything -- at one time of another. I've been busy (again) and lots have been going on.

C and her BF stopped by last night with gifts for Mother's Day -- some flowers, pecan delights, a great card, a cake and a 'go ask your father' EASY button! LMAO! I hit that thing a lot last night!

I'm looking forward to flying out to Minneapolis with B this Friday and getting away from my busy work for a while. It came fast! My son got us tickets to the Twins/Sox game! Just not sure which day/nite it will be but that series is next weekend I believe. I went out and got us some new Sox gear yesterday. Funny that the Twins were just here (whipping our butts!), and next weekend the Sox will be THERE.

I did some errands yesterday for clothes and stuff for the trip in between the rain. Also got to the hairdresser. I wanted to cut the back yard again (did my first cut last weekend) but wanted to get all the weeds and dandelions that popped up but it's been raining again this morning.

C had a surgical procedure a couple of weeks ago. No worries, it was elective but a lot more recoup time than we thought. She stayed here a couple weeks then her BF came when I had to go back to work and took care of her. He's a real keeper! She finally found a nice guy.

A new wings place opened up near us. Opening Day was last Monday. C and her GF went 11pm the night before and stayed up all night with others competing in games overnite. There was a police detail and a DJ. She won most of the games to place herself at 'the' big table around 10 am the next day to participate in the final wing eating contest. She was seated at this table with a dozen guys (she being the only girl) and ate 12 wings in 1 minute and 58 seconds to take more prizes and the GRAND prize of Budweiser Box seats for the Sox game last Weds. against the Twins (my son's employer!). The series would have been better had they at LEAST won one game! And it should have been Weds. but they had a good time nonetheless.

I have pictures I will post at some point; also have a video but not sure if we can post videos here? Anyone of FB can see the photos there.

Besides the Sox tickets, she won a golf bag, a 3foot wide circular electric Guiness bar light, jewelry, a Sam Adams hat and regulation size Sam Adams basketball and others I can't remember. She was exhausted but had a great time.

Hey Midnight, dickc, amc, van, SteelPenny!, remecuda, 30, and anyone I might have missed. I only have a couple of good hours when I get home from work these days and most days I come home exhausted and don't spend a lot of time on the computer. I'm sorry it took me so long this time but I am going to attempt to be better so I can at least 'talk' to each of you individually. Don't give up on me. I'm going to get better lol

;hearts you all!!!

Good morning Fire!

Wishing you a Happy Mother's Day!

Enjoyed some early morning classic TV Shows of comedy, drama, crime, and suspense. Wore my waterproof ball cap and took my recyclables to the Center. Met 2 folks known and we chatted for a while.

Headed for a Super Walmart 32 miles south of here. As Littleton was reached, a decision was made to remain at the local one. Bought a few items and 3 bags of Weed & Feed. Was surprised to see many items in the coolers empty and few people. It was before 9 AM tho.

Returned home to finish the remaining steak tips. Had them with crimini, onions and red bell peppers. Went outdoors when the rain stopped and decorated my half wine barrel with the different annuals bought the day before. Have plastic to cover the barrel in case of our last frost, forecast reads to be Monday overnight.

The black flies returned, swarm en masse, and are hungry. Only the female Black Fly bites since she requires blood for the development of her eggs. As the female bites, she injects saliva into the skin, which is highly irritating and leads to swelling and itching. Ammonia immediately applied works to neutralize the bite. More on the black flies.

One bag of Weed & Feed is good for applying to 5,000 sq feet (1,524 sq meters) of lawn. Hand spread 15,000 square feet (4572 sq meters) on part of my lawn. 1 acre is 43,560 square feet (4046.85 square meters). At $12 a bag at WM it still is expensive to complete and entire lawn.

Have 2 acres of lawn. Few dandelions or weeds, and have grass that looks like a golf course at the roadside end . If it rains often, W & F added to a lawn may need two mowings a week for a few months.

The temp is 52° with the high to be 66°. There is a 30% chance of rain.

Have a splendid day!

Good morning Fire!

Read in the paper the new ad from the 7 store small supermarket chain that would not give me a raincheck for cantaloupes 2/$3 that was in their ad 1 week ago. Their new ad in the paper nows reads, "Prices subject to present stock. Some illustrations are for design purposes only. We reserve the right to limit quantities and correct typographical errors." It does NOT mention no rainchecks.

Organized the house while watching rain storms and the sun come and go in the morning. Ordered the finest Philly steak and cheese in the area via telephone. Asked for onions, peppers, black olives, and mushrooms with provolone cheese to be added. Immediately drove to that restaurant and picked it up. Felt the weight to be a 1¼ lb sub. Well worth the pricey $9.30 w/tax. The finest cut of top round that was delicious with all the veggies.

Drove to the P.O. and was thankful to be in my car. The sky opened up. Passed a 70 y/o man hitchhiking south while I was heading north. He must have been soaked.

Visited our mom & pop flower farm and selected different pansies including the new dynamite blueberry thrill. It is a beautiful blend of purple, blue, yellow and white. All with happy faces.

Also bought red snapdragons, mixed portulla, violet and deep crimson verbena, blue annual lobelia, and some vinca vines to hang down the side of my half wine barrel. 6 packs are $2 and the vines are $1.50 ea. Will return for large tomato plants that are $1.50 ea. Looks to be the frost will be over after Mon & Tues low of 28° until Sept/Oct.

The temp is 54° with the high to be 68°. There is a chance of t-storms and a 90% chance of precipitation. Lots of rain in NY state headed this way. It's raining since 3:45 AM.

Have a tremendous day!

Good morning Fire!

Rec'd 3 hours of moderate rain yesterday morning. There were puddles everywhere. The 60% chance of rain turned into a 50% chance of a t-storm & rain in the afternoon. My area is due for rain right thru Sunday. A big rain fall is hitting MA and in southern NH as this is typed.

Went to the market early. There were samples of orange slices to give to people to taste how sweet the oranges were. They were delicious and just 20¢ ea, limes are 5/$1, a dbl size head of green leaf lettuce is $1.50, all pear are 1.50 al, anjou and Bartlett were bought, crimini mushrooms $3.50 a lb, cukes 40¢ and ripened on the vine tomatoes $1.65 a lb. Have a lot of veggies cooking the crock pot.

At a local supermarket some pleasing deals were bought. Steak tips $4.99 a lb. skinless, boneless chicken breasts $1.77 a lb, and Sweet midnight black grapes were $1.47 a lb w/my raincheck. Save $19 w/the discount sales.

Stopped in Olympia Sports to look for some of my baseball team's new t-shirts. They haven't rec'd what was wanted. Visited TJ Maxx and bought 3 t-shirts. Went to Lowe's to look at flowers and talk about 4 $7 perennial that have not sprouted yet this spring. Saved the receipt and will dig 'em up for a full refund by May 27, if there is no new growth.

The temp is 54° with the high to be 77°. There is a 60% chance of rain. We just had a shower, .49 for the early morning.

Have a delightful day!

Good morning Fire!

Was able to phone my parents' attorney and leave information with his secretary. He shall take care of the matter. The attorney is a sound 91 y/o, comes in to work everyday, argues law in the courts, and still wears bow ties.

One of those mornings that was difficult to leave the house and drive away. Headed over to US Rt2 in Jefferson. Looked at the time, it was after 11 AM. My destination was Mt Waumbek. Realized it was much too late to begin a 5 hour hike.

Turned around and heading back to town. Parked at the side of the Mt Prospect auto road. Left my backpack in the car and took a 1 liter water bottle with me. Up the paved road to the mountain top we went.

State Park workers are readying the road removing the winter cover of leaves using their 100+ mph blowers. The park front gates open on May 25 during weekends, then in June Wed thru Sunday. Each Thursday has free events during the summers.

Called the "lodge," the 2 story 30' x 70' main house, is built of fieldstone and stucco; its gable roof is covered with red terra cotta tiles. The lodge is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There is also a field stone tower 56 feet (17m) high that one can climb up to see the spectacular views.

The estate was built at the direction of John Wingate Weeks, leading conservationist, U.S. congressman, U.S. senator, and Secretary of War under Presidents Harding and Coolidge.

Two huge balconies take full advantage of the lodge's mountain top setting, providing stunning views of the surrounding scenery. Under a sky of blue, magnificent views are seen in every direction. One sees mountains beyond mountains for a 100 miles. Mountains in 3 states and in Canada are seen.

This hike has a steady elevation gain of 650 feet in 1.6 miles. The round trip is 3.2 miles. Had a backache from the first ½ mile until the park bench was sat in. The tremendous views has a way of healing.

Rain has finally arrived. Slow and steady. The temp is 58° with the high to be 73° in mostly cloudy skies with a 60% chance of rain. Off to the market later to look for some buys.

Have a fantastic day!

Good morning Ohyeah ::HUGS:: Still have this durned cold and the sinus headache today. Hope it winds down soon.

AMC - I have been using CFL's for over 20 years. I worked for Sylvania for many years, and our factory prototyped some of the early ones. We never made the spiral types, only the "twin tube" ones. Most of the time the package has the watt equivalent on it. It just takes a bit of looking to find it now a days. Waiting for the LED lights to come down in price now.

13W = 60W
17W = 75W
23W = 100W
40W = 150W

That is as I remember it at least.

Good morning Fire!

amc, Bought 8 CFL's for $7.99 about 3 y/o. Using 13 watts=60watts in all my fixtures. Tried those stick fluorescent bulbs, no light to 'em. Love my low electric bill.

Moseyed around the gardens early in the morning, did some weed maintenance, watered all the plants and fruit bushes. My thigh and back did not bother me. When my chores were finished shorts, a hiking t-shirt (poly) and my hiking boots were changed into and down the mountain we went.

It was to be another hot day in the 80's with clear, rich blue skies, our 3rd straight week of marvelous June weather. Traveled slowly down the mountain. Was testing to feel how my left strained hip was from brushing into a partially submerged rock.

Up the first steady rise in elevation saw no problems. The brooks were flowing like streams due to nearly a month without rain. My back began to bother me near the end of that gain. Saw for the first time a concrete post sticking out of the ground, like a 50's style cement sidewalk crib.

Apparently this was the dividing boundary between the lawn of the founding family's father with lawn, and his son whose has a score of apple trees. Had to stop and look at it up close.

At the small pond there was no longer the sound of any peepers. Several to many fresh deer tracks were in road. Research finds a whitetail deer requires approximately 1 1/2 quarts for every 100 pounds of body weight per day during the winter. This requirement doubles during the summer, with deer needing about 3 quarts for every 100 pounds of body weight.

Forgot about the brand new electric fence 1000 ft below the 4 story farmhouse. When it was reached that unmistakable smell of cows greeted me. Just past a few trees at the side of the road was the 30-50 acre open hay field.

In the distance it seemed 20 Jersey cows were watching us pass by. Near the giant farmhouse a stop was made. Soon all but 2-3 cows raced towards me. Like it could be a stampede! Wondered if the e-fence was going to contain them. Most were well over 6' tall and bodies the size of two bathtubs!

They did stop. When my dog was thru exploring the giant barn she returned to the road. 36 full size cows were counted. Many had their horns trimmed. We just looked at each other for minutes. And then they mooed.

Just a week ago the e-fence was put up and today was the first time seeing the cows. Someone has to lead them into the barn to be milked twice a day and give them water. Like this pleasant kind of mystery.

Other than the cows, a day of pure silence, with passenger jets seen with their contrails far to the south of here. No people or vehicles drove by.
This hike is a fulfilling 4¼ miles with a respectable 650 foot of elevation gain.

After a lunch of crock potted mixed veggies and a side of a pork chop, heat and PT exercise was done. My back is fine as this is typed. Am considering phoning the Chiro for more appointments. Great that my hip is not hurting. No big plans, just yet.

The temp is 40° with the high to be 79° in most sunny skies.

Have a fabulous day!

Evening Fire! Midnight, wish they would put the conversion from incandescent watt to CFL conversion i.e. 25, 40, 60, 75, 100, 125 watt bulbs and their comparable CFL conversions. I've gone to places like Menard's, Home Depot, Batteries Plus for conversion charts, when I've been at these places, they're out of those conversion charts.

Another nice day today, yesterday was a beautiful day, first golf league afternoon/evening, practice round, league play begins next Monday about 3 weeks later than normal.

Wild playing game 4 tonight v. the Black Hawks, hope the Wild even the series!!!
