Call me old fashioned, but I am fond of turning my head around and looking back, over my shoulders.

Good old fashion take time to turn and look. With the way people are so careless these days one cannot afford to depend on gadgets, mirrors and such. As a driver youhave to take every precaution to avoid a serious accident.

Until I install a back up camera on my truck, I have my son put me on the trailer hitch.
If he isn't there, I get out of the truck, estimate distance to hitch, get back in and do the Hokey Pokey for a while until I can put the trailer on the truck ball.
If'n I'm just parking, I use the rear views.

Granted that the camera is a nice feature, I feel that everyone who is a licensed driver should know how to use their side and rear view mirrors. I know this sounds silly, but you'd be amazed at how many don't really use these (at least the side views) or any of them while they're driving forward! I do like the obstacle warning sensors for little children who just might get behind your vehicle...however, I just make sure there are no children, etc around when I do back up.

a left corner, right corner, and center rear sensors: that would beep when it's about 5 inches away to hit; it would be great for parallel parking and backing-up. It would be great if the sensor's distance would be adjustable to beep from 3"-12" distance; great use for very tight parking spaces.

Camera would be too distracting on a normal size car; probably ok for a truck or SUV

I like to use my Camera.

Did you know that there's a vehicle manufacturer that is trying to replace it's side mirrors with cameras? The displays will be on the dash, so the driver doesn't have actually turn his/her head.

Not that you or I wrench our necks to see what's behind/beside us anyway.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

As I age, turning requires a larger effort so safety for myself and others is reduced... back to walking and biking; gas is just too expensive!

Other than your rear-view and side mirrors, which type of assistance device helps you the most while backing up? (Discuss)
Sure wish I had an Obstacle warning sensor 11%
Sure wish I had a Camera 14%
Special mirrors 3%

I am not advocating a government mandate for cameras, but was only wondering "when" this law might change.

A friend of mine who obtained his CDL had to back up the semi using ONLY his side view mirrors (Could not look over his shoulder). I wonder "if and when" the use of cameras will be allowed for this?

Turning my head around to look is the BEST option for me.

I can't afford a fancy car with all these gadgets that will eventually break and cause me to have an accident!

Look over my shoulder to make sure no one is there then use my mirrors to park straight as my truck takes up most of the parking space and if it's not straight it become a pain for everyone. Same when backing a trailer in somewhere.

I always look over my shoulder regardless of any technology unless I don't have a choice and can't see out the rear window. The best way to drive a car is to always WATCH where you are going.
